Drink Recipes : Mango milk shake

INGREDIENTS

Ripe Mangoes - 2, cut into cubes
Chilled Milk - 1.5 cups
Vanilla Ice-cream - 2-3 scoops
Sugar / honey - as required (refer notes)

PREPARATION

Blend together cubed mangoes, ice cubes and  ½ cup milk. Once it's smooth, add remaining milk and 2 scoops of ice cream and sugar or honey (if using). Serve chilled.

Drink Recipes : Grape wine

INGREDIENTS

Black grapes - 1 kg
Sugar - 650 - 800 gm (refer notes)
Yeast - 1 teaspoon
Water (boiled and cooled completely) - 1.5 liters
Wheat kernels (gothambu mani) - 1 tablespoon

PREPARATION

Wash the grapes well. Take clean big glass or porcelain jar of 3 liter size. Put the grapes into the jar and crush it well using your hands. Add all the other ingredients to the crushed grapes. Cover the jar tightly with the lid. Store it, in a dark place. Keep it like that for 1 week. After one week, start stirring it with wooden spoon (Not metal) every day until 21 days. (Try to do it at same time every day. Don’t stir for the next 2 days). On 24th day, drain the clear wine and leave behind the sediment in the bottom. Bottle it in colored glass bottles; this will help to retain the color of the wine. Refrigerate and serve chilled.

INGREDIENTS

Dates - 1/2 cup (seedless)
Milk - 1 cup

PREPARATION

For preparing dates juice, combine dates, milk and honey in a blender then Blend well and Pour it in a serving glass. A healthy Dates juice is ready.

Drink Recipes : Ginger lemon

INGREDIENTS

Lemon Juice - 1 cup
Ginger - 2 tablespoon
Sugar - 3 cups
Water - 1 cup

Take a deep vessel & add sugar & water. Boil it & add ground ginger. Boil it for 10 minutes & remove from fire. When it cools add lemon juice & mix well. Strain the syrup & store in a bottle. The syrup can be stored in fridge for 2-3 weeks. Add 1 & 1/2 tablespoon syrup for a glass of juice.

Drink Recipes : Sweet and spicy watermelon

INGREDIENTS

Watermelon chunks - 3 cups
Sugar - 1-2 tsp
Mint leaves - 8-10 leaves
Salt - a pinch
Green chilli - 2-3 slices
Lemon juice - 1-2 tbsp

PREPARATION

Mix everything together in a blender till it's smooth. Add crushed ice and blend, if you prefer a super chilled version. We also added 2 tbsp of Malibu, for a coconut flavor. You can store it in fridge for 2 days.

Drink Recipes : Kuluki Sarbath

INGREDIENTS

Unripened lime: 1 no
Basil seeds: 1 tsp
Sugar: 2 tbsp
Salt a pinch
Crushed ginger: 1/2 tsp
Green chilies: 1/4 tsp sliced
Pineapple: 1tsp, finely chopped
Water: 1 glass
Crushed ice / Ice cubes: Handful

PREPARATION

Prepare sugar syrup with 2 tablespoon of sugar and 2 tablespoon of water. Soak the basil seeds in water for 10-15 minutes and drain them. In a tall glass, add one teaspoon of the sugar syrup. Extract the juice from half of a lime and add it to the glass. Add all other ingredients. Add a small piece of the lime to the glass and add water. Add ice cubes. Cover it tightly with another glass and shake it strongly for 30 seconds.

Drink Recipes : Minted lemon juice

INGREDIENTS

Lemon Juice: 1 & 1/2 tbsp / 1 big lemon
Crushed ginger: 1/2 tsp
Mint leaves, chopped: 1/2 tsp
Sugar: 2 tbsp
Water: 2 glasses
Ice cubes: 1/2 cup

PREPARATION

Wash and clean the mint leaves. Mix all our ingredients together and grind them all in a mixer (juicer) or food processor. Sieve it to a bowl. Taste the sweetness and add more sugar if needed. Serve it immediately poured over ice in tall glasses. Garnish with lemon and lime slices.

Drink Recipes : Butter milk


INGREDIENTS

Cold Buttermilk - 2 cups (I used low fat)
Small / pearl onion - 4, sliced
Chopped ginger - 1-2 tsp
Green chili - 2, chopped
Curry leaves - 1 small sprig (around 10 leaves)
Mint leaves - 6 leaves
Salt

PREPARATION

Combine everything in a blender, until all the ingredients are mixed well. Pour into serving glasses. If you want you can strain the drink, but we didn’t strain it. Also, if you prefer, you can add ice cubes for a chilled version and also for froth. We used low fat Laban (for those who live in Gulf) for this recipe. You can also use yogurt, but make sure you add water to loosen it. If you like a sweet and salty taste, add 1 tsp of sugar to the mix. You can also sprinkle some chaat masala on top for an added kick.

Drink Recipes : Iced tea

INGREDIENTS

Tea bags - 4 (Any regular tea bags)
Sugar - 1/2 cup
Honey - 1/4 cup
Cardamom - 4
Cinnamon stick - 1 piece
Star anise (thakolam) - 1 pod

PREPARATION

Steep 4 tea bags in 2 cups boiling water, 10 minutes Discard the tea bags. Simmer the tea with sugar, honey, cardamom, cinnamon and star anise over low -medium heat until syrupy, 12-15 minutes; strain. Let cool completely and store the syrup in fridge. For each drink, mix 1-3 tbsp of syrup (depending on the size of the glass you use) with cold club soda / seltzer; add ice. Stir to combine. Serve with a slice of lemon and a few mint leaves, if you wish.

Drink Recipes : Apple milk shake

INGREDIENTS

Apple (peeled & cored) - 1 large, cubed
Dates (deseeded) - 2-3, chopped
Honey - 1-2 tbsp
Milk - 1-1.5 cups (chilled)

PREPARATION

Blend together cubed apples, chopped dates, 1 tbsp honey and  ½ cup milk, till it becomes a smooth paste. Add rest of the milk and blend again. Do a taste test and add more honey or dates if required and blend till smooth. If you want a frothier and thick shake, add 3-4 ice cubes and blend.
